Followg the disappotg news about the Hoton Equal Rights Ordance (HERO), we at The Gay Christian Network, along wh the mayor of Hoton and our partner venu, want to assure you that the GCN Conference remas a safe space for all the LGBT muny—and that you are wele Hoton. Founr and executive director of The Gay Christian Network. Four years ago I didn’t thk was possible to be both Gay and Christian.
To be gay was to have adopted a false inty rooted s and to be Christian was to fd one’s inty J Christ alone. You were eher gay and opposed to Christiany, or a Christian and opposed to homosexualy. The 100 LGBTQ evangelils were jt a small percentage of the nearly 1, 500 people that gathered at the Oregon Conventn Center Portland for the Gay Christian Network Conference, an annual gatherg of LGBTQ Christians and our alli hosted by The Gay Christian Network.
Of urse, any Gay Christian nference uld not be plete whout prottors, and this year the GCN Conference was vised by the famo Wtboro Baptist Church, who showed up on Saturday morng wh their signs and songs clarg God’s hatred towards LGBTQ people. I went to the Gay Christian Network’s “Live It Out” nference Chigo a ltle unsure of what to expect, a ltle perplexed that someone like me would be ved, and a ltle eaked out about what to say as a straight woman to a group of gay, lbian, bisexual, and transgenr Christians—many of whom have been severely wound by the Church.
