ROMANTIC ATTACHMENT AND RELATNSHIP SATISFACTN GAY MEN AND LBIANS CHILE
There was a negative associatn between attachment avoidance and relatnship satisfactn, but not between attachment anxiety and relatnship Satisfactn, and a genr moratg effect was found. ABSTRACT Attachment theory has proven to be a solid amework for unrstandg uple bonds, but rearch foced on same-sex relatnships among gay men and lbian women om Lat Ameri remas limed. The purpose of this study was to exame the associatn between romantic attachment and relatnship satisfactn a sample of Chilean gay men and lbian women. A snowball samplg was ed. The fal sample nsisted of 259 dividuals volved a same-sex uple relatnship, rangg om 18 to 66 years of age (M = 27.2, SD = 6.8) for gay men and 18 to 57 years of age (M = 28.6, SD = 8.1) for lbian women. Our hypoth were partially supported, as there was a negative associatn between attachment avoidance and relatnship satisfactn, but not between attachment anxiety and relatnship satisfactn. We did not fd a genr moratg effect. The fdgs may ntribute to the unrstandg of lbian and gay people a same-sex upl relatnship om an attachment theory perspective. * satisfaction gay *
After years of unrelentg Rsian media attacks on the LGBT muny (not to mentn the ever-creasg rat of physil attacks for which the anti-gay mpaign provis ver), what uld be more hearteng than apparently ordary Rsians showg solidary wh a group of boys who so fortably habed a two-mute homoerotic performance? A number of media mentators, both pro- and anti-Satisfactn, pare the performance to somethg one might see at the Mosw “Blue Oyster” bar, a gay nightspot whose name is both a gay pun Rsian and apparently spired by a scene om the first Police Amy movie. ” Perhaps my rponse is not jt Amerin, but over-the-hill: when I was growg up, before the days of Gay-Straight Allianc and the like, the ia that a bunch of straight boys uld do a performance like this that was not explicly mockg gays was unthkable.
Contrast this to the Rsian social media sndal of the beard Atrian cross-drser Concha Wurst’s victory the 2014 Eurovisn ntt, shortly after the oter of Ukraian Print Viktor Yanovich and the Rsian anexatn of Crimea and not long after Rsia’s adoptn of the gay propaganda law. Addnally, mascule tras as well as homosexuals/bisexuals who intify themselv as tops and who behave and are perceived as mascule have been nsistently lked wh better mental health than feme tras as well as those who intify themselv as bottoms and who behave and are perceived as feme (Carlson & Ster, 1985; Gonzalez, Bocktg, Beckman, & Durán, 2012; Lng & Moore, 2003). Internalized Homophobia and Mental and Physil HealthBased on the mory strs mol, prev studi have revealed that stigma, discrimatn, and prejudice due to non-prototypil sexual orientatn create “mory strs” and a hostile social environment as well as ntribute to adverse health out (Jackson et al., 2019; Meyer, 2003).
E., negative feelgs about one’s own sexual orientatn rultg om the ternalizatn of antigay stigma and prejudice) is a key source of strs for sexual mori that n lead to greater risk for mental health disorrs and other negative out (Herek, 2004; Meyer, 2003). For example, rearch has suggted a signifint rrelatn between ternalized homophobia and mental health such as anxiety, prsn, and suicidal iatn (Newb & Mtanski, 2010; Vera-Villarroel, Valtierra, & Contreras, 2016; Xu, Zheng, Xu, & Zheng, 2017).

In Cha, as well as some other cultur around the world, homosexualy n be viewed as immoral and unacceptable, and the image of gay and bisexual men may be negative due to their sexualy beg associated wh HIV and other STIs (Xu et al., 2017). Internalized Homophobia and Qualy of LifeQualy of life has been an creasg rearch foc studi on sexual mory populatns, and several studi have nfirmed that lbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) dividuals have a poorer qualy of life (Cochran & Mays, 2009; Horowz, Weis, & Lafl, 2001).
Prev studi have monstrated that participants wh high ternalized homophobia were at creased risk for ternalizg mental health problems such as anxiety, prsn, and substance e–related morbidy and suici attempts pared to exclively heterosexual women and men (Cochran & Mays, 2000; Hatzenbuehler, Mclghl, & Nolenhoeksema, 2008; Newb & Mtanski, 2010).

Rearch has also reported a relatnship between ternalized homophobia and substance e, eatg disorrs, high-risk sexual behavrs, and synmic productn (Hatzenbuehler, Nolenhoeksema, & Erickson, 2008; Kuyper & Vanwenbeeck, 2011; Xu et al., 2017). Forst and his lleagu revealed that dividuals’ ternalized homophobia was not associated wh eher externally rated physil health problems or lifetime physil health diagnos, while was closely related to one’s self-appraised physil health. As a subjective asssment of the dividuals’ overall well-beg, evince monstrated that homosexuals were signifintly ls likely to report beg “fairly or very happy” than heterosexuals an Adult Psychiatric Morbidy Survey (Bachmann & Simon, 2014; Chakraborty, Babu, & Sarma, 2011).
Other nsirable rearch has provid evince of sexual mori as beg at greater risk of low levels of well-beg (Lazarevic et al., 2015; Luhtanen, 2003) is nsirable rearch suggtg that ternalized homophobia n affect the life satisfactn of LGB people a variety of ways. Regrsn analysis was ed to explore the fns of the hypothized mol explag the associatns among ternalized homophobia (as the pennt variable), qualy of life (as the mediator), and life satisfactn (as the pennt variable) as well as the sexual orientatn and sex role (as the morators). 31***To analyze the mediatn effects of the mental ponent summary on the relatnship between ternalized homophobia and life satisfactn, bootstrappg procre (5, 000 bootstrap rampl) was ed to tt the hypothized mediatg effects (Figure 1).
Siarly, the study also intified that participants had lower satisfactn wh life pared wh fdgs dited that gay and bisexual men Cha were experiencg paratively poorer qualy of life and life satisfactn, which was siar to other studi that have emphasized the importance of providg mental health re to the gay populatn (Bachmann & Simon, 2014; Horowz, Weis, & Lafl, 2001; Williamson, 2000). Gay and bisexual dividuals wh genr nonnformy were perceived as vlatg genr norms and would experience more discrimatn and prejudice and be rejected by others, which n lead to poor mental health (Collier, Van Bsekom, Bos, & Sandfort, 2013; Lo et al., 2019; Meyer, 2003; Newb & Mtanski, 2010). Those who were a heterosexual relatnship agast their will were a worse suatn, bee of feelgs of guilt or other plited prent study intified a negative associatn between ternalized homophobia and qualy of life, pecially the mental ponent summary.

This fdg was siar to that of a prev study which people who had a high level of ternalized homophobia were more likely to have high levels of psychologil distrs pared to those who had lower levels of ternalized homophobia (Cochran & Mays, 2000; Cochran & Mays, 2009; Xu et al., 2017). ; Herrick et al., 2013; Newb & Mtanski, 2010) study revealed that ternalized homophobia was negatively related to physil functng and role limatn due to physil problems, while s relatnship to other physil health domas was not signifint.
One explanatn uld be that mory strs procs operated differentially on sexual mory mental and physil health, cludg ternalized homophobia (Walch et al., 2016) study dited ternalized homophobia had a signifint negative relatnship wh life satisfactn. Individuals wh higher levels of ternalized homophobia may be more cled to hi their sexual orientatn, particularly Cha, and ternalized homophobia has been suggted to rrelate negatively wh social support satisfactn and gay social support (Yadavaia & Hay, 2012).
VALIDATN OF THE ATTU SLE TO LBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENR OLD AGE A COLOMBIAN SAMPLE
The participants wh high ternalized homophobia were more likely to feel sexual dissatisfactn and a lack of prent study monstrated that the relatnship between ternalized homophobia and life satisfactn was mediated by mental health. Prev studi have suggted that bisexuals reported signifintly more discrimatn om the heterosexual muny as a rult of rejectn and margalizatn om heterosexuals and lbians/gay men, as pared to gay or lbian dividuals (Roberts, Horne, & Hoyt, 2015). Heterosexuals and lbians/gay men exprsed more negative attus toward bisexuals than toward lbians/gay men (Eliason, 1997; Herek, 2000; Mulick & Wright, 2002) bee of stereotyp about the illegimacy and stabily of bisexualy or negative perceptns of bisexuals as sexually irrponsible (sexually obssed, diseased, promiscuo).
Although mental health uld not mediate the relatnship between ternalized homophobia and life satisfactn among top and versatile subgroups, is important not to overlook the direct and negative effects of ternalized homophobia on life satisfactn.
