And then, on top of this, a sympathetic and posive portra of gay men. I have a crge meter which monors how we, gays, are treated. Director Barry Jenks has somehow figured out how to envelop this turbulent story — a poor black boy endur soul-srrg r of passage as he grows up to be a very troubled gay man — an atmosphere that’s achgly tenr and even betiful.

Then we meet him as an adolcent (Ashton Sanrs) who experienc a brief, idyllic moment of gay timacy on a beach wh another stunt. The narrative and even the physil gap between the adolcent and fully adult Chirons, for one thg, is nsirable, possibly too nsirable, and the homoeroticism is relatively chaste. The melancholic bgraphil drama, directed by acclaimed Brish filmmaker Terence Davi, don’t shy away om Sassoon’s queerns as hon on the bat veteran’s gay love affairs wh Ivor Novello (Jeremy Irve), Stephen Tennant (Calam Lynch) and Glen Byam Shaw (Tom Blyth), as well as his nversn to Catholicism.

As he told GAY TIMES earlier this year, “I’ve been searchg for that remptn, and I haven’t found eher. The first gay romantic edy om a major stud, Bros marked a historic moment for queer cema wh s prcipal LGBTQ+ st – even the heterosexual rol were played by actors of the LGBTQ+ experience. Followg Billy Eichner’s character Bobby Lieber as a podster and rad show host as he falls for a ‘masc4masc’ gay (played by Le Macfarlane), Bros is one of the most outrageoly funny edi of the year and is, thankfully, not straightwashed to appeal to cis-het dienc.
