Alleyne's wife appears to have been the prcipal owner; Sir John Gay Alleyne had a life tert unr a settlement of 1782. He married Elizabeth Isabella Gay, dghter of John Gay of Dymocks, Barbados. His son was Sir John Gay Alleyne.
LECTURE ON SIR JOHN GAY ALLEYNE
Two sons (John Gay Newton and Reynold Abel) and five dghters (Mary, Jane Gay, Rebec, Christian Dott and Abel). The elst boy, John Gay Newton Alleyne, died 1800 at Eton College, England at the age of 13 years.
The historian, Poyer, his “History of Barbados” referred to Sir John Gay Alleyne as “The venerable patrt ……….. Sir John Gay Alleyne was born on April 28, 1724 St Jam Barbados.
Their only son John Gay (Jr) was born 1747 but died young. Mt Gilboa was later renamed Mount Gay Sir John’s honour (there was already a Mount Alleyne). Gay is where the famo m distillery is loted.
