My two protagonists served on army active duty before, durg and after Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and through the natn's full evolutn on gay marriage, om zero to 50 legal stat (after DOMA end).

Their liv weave and out of experience wh lbians, enlisteds and sailors, airmen and Mar, but I do not attempt to document the policy's impact on every gay muny. I had been a gay soldier before the policy, but wanted the perspective of someone servg.

All the gay advocy groups tried to fd a service member to work wh me, but all failed.

I met several gay soldiers, mar and airmen, and took months to w some of them over, but several agreed. I was stunned that their liv — and the ways they manvered about the policy — was nothg like I had expected, even as a former gay soldier, and nothg like I had read about.
