“The Fabl of Gay have ever been teemed for their easy flow of versifitn for their w and humour and for ntag a nsirable portn of moral and worldly stctn. Gay is bt remembered for his poetil, dramatic and observatnal works, which clu the Shepherd’s Week (1714), the Beggar’s Opera (1728) and the Wife of Bath: a edy (1730) – each of which are held the Sn llectn alongsi a plethora of Gay’s other works. But wh the royal ditn of his fabl Gay had hoped to secure himself a prtig (and ed lucrative) posn at urt.
Gay died December 1732 and is now buried the south transept of Wtmster Abbey, jt across the river om Lambeth Palace Library. Cox 1738, produced om mancripts left behd by Gay.
