Gay is bt remembered for his poetil, dramatic and observatnal works, which clu the Shepherd’s Week (1714), the Beggar’s Opera (1728) and the Wife of Bath: a edy (1730) – each of which are held the Sn llectn alongsi a plethora of Gay’s other works. But wh the royal ditn of his fabl Gay had hoped to secure himself a prtig (and ed lucrative) posn at urt.
Gay died December 1732 and is now buried the south transept of Wtmster Abbey, jt across the river om Lambeth Palace Library.
