In this se 'Gay' substutg 'Pray' do mark one of the book's strengths, and ironilly one of s weakns as well. Of urse, the gay ntext was the ma reason I bought this book, and while I enjoyed learng about Berl's gay unrground clubs etc., the gay partyg is lackg the pth that the spirual aspect of 'Eat, Pray, Love' did provi.

Each adventure is grippg to read and I really liked the way that the thor his experienc to explore aspects of LGBT life cludg the difficulti and ways of livg as LGBT untri where beg gay or trans is illegal. Its not an -pth exploratn or narrative of LGBT+ people and some of the issu they face travellg or a cultural exploratn of LGBT+ issu and liv but is an dividual memoir that looks at the experienc of travel through the ey of a young gay man.

Addnally, I also felt that the typil ton and problems faced by the queer muny are almost forced to the storyle eg: g out, isolatn, gay rights, nartic abe, SA. Calum skillfully wr about his experience travellg the world as a sgle gay man, and the unique stori of the LGBT+ people he meets along the way. It is rare to read an hont, warts and all, acunt of travellg as a sgle gay man and the experienc and issu that n and I are very different people, but like most gay men we have had very siar experienc, pecially the need to fd onelf and feel fortable our own sk, as well as our surroundgs.

I felt this book tely reprented my readg journey so far wh this year focg on male gay protagonists, Callums story emerg you different cultur, worlds and people that you'd never get a chance to see whout openg yourself to them, the same sense ive felt that openg myself to the experienc of other gay men and followg their stori and experienc has benefted me soooooo much.
EAT, GAY, LOVE: LONGLISTED FOR THE POLARI FIRST BOOK PRIZE
The re premise of this book was to fd one's self I feel, Cullum starts wh some backround and why he choos to travel yet woven throughout the book is a spotlight on the LGBT+ difficulti that exist everywhere, speakg of hate crim, suici rat and dg e yet equal part the muny that wh beg gay. I've not experienced this my life unfortunatally, my gay muny is maly hookup culture yet through readg I am learng and lookg for more of this muny around me.
